About Hildesheim

365 steps and you stand at an airy height on the highest steeple in Lower Saxony. From there you can have breathtaking views on the smallest mayor city of Lower Saxony with its 103,000 inhabitants - Hildesheim. In the south the foothills of the low mountain range can be detected and if the air is clear the Brocken of the Harz mountains can be seen. In the north the beginning of the North German Plain are to explore. Pure variety. This concerns not only the charming scenic location of Hildesheim.

Pure variety also characterises the city life.
Hildesheim is a university town, an episcopal city and has two UNESCO World Cultural Heritages since 1985. In 2007 the city was decorated as the most popular excursion destination in Northern Germany in a survey of the channel NDR. Moreover the Knochenhauer-Amtshaus on the market square and the cathedral were chosen to be the two most beautiful buildings in Lower Saxony. The Theater für Niedersachsen (TfN) - in its form a unique institution nationwide - is domiciled in Hildesheim as well as the well-known Roemer- and Pelizaeus-museum with its unique international collections. Beside the university, also a college of higher education exists. Thus, and because of the large free-lance art-, culture-, and theater-scene, an extraordinary diversity in culture is created. In 2015 the city celebrates its 1.200
th anniversary.

Numerous bars and restaurants invite you to stay anywhere - on the historical market square, the Hohnsensee or in the famous pub and trendy neighbourhood. Owners guided retail shops and well-known chain store companies provide an attractive downtown and attract numerous guests and visitors to shop in the cathedral city.

With the construction of the Arneken-Galerie as an inner-city shopping center, the reconstruction of the station and the building of the "Umgestülpter Zuckerhut" (a symbol of the city, which was destroyed during the war) the attraction will even increase in the next few years. Many events inspire foreign guests, whether the Christmas Market, the Jazztime-Festival or the M'era Luna Festival which attracts about 20,000 Gothic fans from across Europe annually.

In Hildesheim you can feel at ease.
The routes are short and the urban supply, the cultural institutions and the various recreational areas are quickly reachable on foot. The city itself is easily compassed by four federal highways, the highway A7, a port, an airport and ICE railway station.
